natural gas DEPARTMENT
As members of the Municipal Gas Authority of Gas (MGAG) of Georgia, the Georgia and American Public Associations, and the One Call Utilities Protection Center, Inc., the City of Adel provides safe, reliable natural gas service to over 800 residential, 120 commercial, and 10 industrial accounts. The gas mains and services lines are buried underground and have a depth ranging from 24”-36” for gas mains and 12”-18” for service lines. These gas lines are located on most of the streets in the City of Adel and locations in Sparks, Highway 41, and Lenox are monitored on an annual basis for any signs of leakage and corrosion.
In order to ensure your safety, we conduct annual leak surveys as well as valve and regulator inspections. Our employees have 4 hrs of training including written test and field evaluations monthly to maintain 65 plus certifications inspection by Public Service Commission (PSC), and Georgia Public Service Commission inspectors are constantly monitoring manuals and field operations.
can you recognize and react to a natural gas leak?
If you smell gas inside your home or business, leave the premises immediately, do not call from your home, don’t turn on or off any electrical switches, do not attempt to air out the building. If you are on the phone, do not hang it up, lay it down and call the gas department from another phone at a safe distance. Remain away from the premises until emergency personnel have given you the OK to return. Never try to make repairs to stop a gas leak as you could possibly make the situation worse and cause possible damage, injury or death. Please do not hesitate to call your local natural gas department if you even think that what you smell may be gas. It is better to be safe.
Trust your senses. Report a suspected gas leak immediately. Call the City of Adel Gas Department at 229-896-3372 (Mon-Fri 8:00am – 5:00pm) or 911 Emergency after regular business hours for immediate response by qualified personnel.
